The American Medical Association (AMA) has made Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code changes to the 2017 edition of the CPT coding manual. In addition, CMS has also made changes to Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes.
Diagnostic Laboratory of Oklahoma (DLO) will be implementing these changes effective January 1, 2017. CPT 2017 changes include the following new codes:
- Presumptive (screen) toxicology CPT codes (80305, 80306, and 80307) will replace the existing AMA CPT codes (80300, 80301, 80302, 80303 and 80304) and CMS HCPCS codes (G0477, G0478, and G0479)
- Molecular testing codes, GSP codes, changes to Tier 2 molecular codes, deletion of 81280, 81281, 81282 and additional Multianalyte Assays with Algorithmic Analyses (MAAA) tests
- The chemistry CPT code for direct bioavailable testosterone, a new infectious agent target code for central nervous system (CNS) pathogens
These tests may also be included in panels or profiles. Listed below are the codes for the affected molecular tests. The toxicology test list can be found here.
