Methodology: Spectrophotometry (SP)
Clinical Significance:Plasma glucose levels may be abnormally high (hyperglycemia) or abnormally low (hypoglycemia). Glucose measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of carbohydrate metabolic disorders including diabetes mellitus, idiopathic hypoglycemia, and pancreatic islet cell neoplasm.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Plasma submissions must be separated from cells. Glucose levels may be depressed if sample is left on clot for an excessive length of time.
Rejection Criteria: Unspun SST; Red Top or Non-plasma Separator (PST) green-top tubes; Anticoagulents other than fluoride/oxalate.
