Limitations: The formation of endogenous carotenoids in infants older than ten days may affect results.
Supply: #T50 BD Amber Microtainer Serum Separator Tube
Preferred Specimen: 0.3 mL Serum in an Amber Microtainer SST (Supply #T50)
Alternate Specimen: Plasma collected in: Lithium heparin (green-top) tube or sodium heparin (green-top) tube • Serum (Collected in #T157 Red/Yellow SST, #T51 Microtainer, or #T52 Microtainer SST, and transferred to an amber or non-light protected transport vial #ST05)






Preferred Volume: 0.3 mL Serum
Minimum Volume: 0.2 mL
Instructions: Patient should be less than 60 days of age.
Draw 2 amber Microtainer® serum separator tubes (SSTs) or wrap 2 spun Microtainer® serum separator tubes (SSTs) in foil. Avoid hemolysis.
Transport Container: 2 spun amber Microtainer® serum separator tubes (SSTs) or amber transport vial if alternate specimen collected
Transport Temperature: Room Temperature
Specimen Stability:
If protected from light
Room temperature: 24 hours
Refrigerated: 72 hours
Frozen: 90 days
Reject Criteria:
- Hemolysis
- Anticoagulants other than heparin
