Preferred specimen(s): Vaginal, endocervical, urethral, prostatic secretions. This Assay does not rule out Neisseria Gonorrhoeae or Group B Streptococci (use test “Culture, Streptococcus Group B”). Collect specimen using culture swab transport device. Indicate source of specimen on both the test requisition and specimen transport device.
Methodology:
Bacterial culture, aerobic includes routine isolation and identification procedures. Antibiotic susceptibility testing when appropriate.
Clinical Significance:
The significance of any isolate(s), in pure or mixed culture, must be assessed with respect to the source cultured, the organism's pathogenic potential, the possibility of colonization versus infection, and the number of other organisms recovered from the same culture.

Instructions: Do not refrigerate
Minimum volume: One transport swab
Transport container: Blue cap culture swab device with Amies gel transport medium
Transport temperature: Room temperature - Do not refrigerate
Specimen stability:
Deliver to the microbiology lab ASAP
Transport swab and sterile container at room temperature: 2 days
