Clinical significance: The detection and identification of specific pathogen nucleic acids from individuals exhibiting signs and symptoms of respiratory infection aids in proper diagnosis.
The Respiratory Pathogen Panel (37444) is used for the detection of the following respiratory viruses and bacterial pathogens:

Supply: #S05 - VCM Nasal Swab

Preferred specimen(s): 1 Nasopharyngeal swab collected in 3 mL VCM, M4 media, M4RT or equivalent *Transport Medium will vary in lid color

Preferred volume: 1 Nasopharyngeal swab in 3 mL
Minimum volume: 1 swab in 0.5 mL transport

Transport container: VCM medium or equivalent M4 or M4RT

Transport temperature: Frozen -70º C

Specimen stability: 

  • Room Temperature: 8 hours
  • Refrigerated: 72 hours
  • Frozen -20º C: Not established
  • Frozen -70º C: 30 days

Rejection Criteria: Sources other than nasopharyngeal
