Aerobic Bacterium Identification and Susceptibility
Test code: 392
CPT code: Dependent upon method of identification.
Identification by biochemicals (CPT code(s): 87077) or Gas liquid chromatography (CPT code(s): 87143) or Identification by nucleic acid probe (CPT code(s): 87149) or Serogrouping or serotyping (CPT code(s): 87147) or Immunofluorescent study (CPT code(s): 87140). If submitted culture is no growth or mixed growth with no further identification (CPT code(s): 87999).
Clinical Significance: Aerobic Bacterium Identification and Susceptibility - Organisms are evaluated according to clinical significance. If appropriate, the genus and species will be determined, and susceptibility testing will be performed. The susceptibility of a specific organism to a specific antimicrobial agent can indicate the relative success or failure that may be expected if this agent is used to treat that organism. Susceptibility reports can be used as a guide in the choice of therapy; to confirm an empiric therapeutic decision, or to confirm antimicrobial resistance.
Methodology: Varies. Antibiotic susceptibilities will be performed if appropriate.
Alternative Names: Identification, Aerobic Isolate, Bacterial ID and Sensi, Aerobic ID, Organism, Aerobic Susceptibility Panel, ID Bacteria, Micro-Organism Identification, MIC Panel, Organism Identification
